Course-General

1. Where can I find the race course maps?

–Course maps are now available here

2. What are the course cut-off times?

Swim: The swim course will close 2 hours and 20 minutes after the last athlete enters the water.Each athlete will get the full 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the 3.8 kmswim regardless ofwhat time they enter the water. Athletes who take longer than 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete theswim will receive a DNF.

Bike: The bike course will close 10 hours and 30 minutes after the last athlete enters the water. Athletes arriving at the bike dismount line after 5:30PMwillnot be permitted to continue.

Run: The run course will officially close 17 hours after the last athlete enters the water.

Finish line:The course closes 17 hours after the last athlete enters the water.

*Cut-off times are subject to change, please check the Athlete Guide closer to the event. Athletes could be removed from the course if they do not make cut-off times or if staff deems times to be unreachable.

3. What nutrition will be available on course?

Course-Swim

1. How many laps is the swim?

The swim is a two (2) laps/loop swim.

2. What kind of start does this race have?

The swim will be a rolling start. Athletes will enter the water in a continuous stream through a controlled accesspoint, similar to how running road races are started. An athlete’s times will start when they cross timing matsunder the swim arch.

Athletes will be directed to self-seed on race morning based on their projected swim time. Volunteers and staffwill be in the staging area with signs and will assist with this process. Self-seeding will not be mandatory but willbe encouraged.

It is expected to take 25-30 minutes for all athletes toenter the water; everyone will be in the water by 7:00am.

3. What is the expected water temperature?

The average water temperature isis usually approximately 21 degrees Celsius (~ 70 degrees Fahrenheit).

4. What are the wetsuit restrictions?

Wetsuits are permitted if the water temperature is up to (and including) 76.1 degreesFahrenheit (24.5 degrees Celsius) or colder. Wetsuits cannot measure more than 5 mmthick.

Wetsuits will be prohibited in water temperatures greater than 83.8 degrees Fahrenheit(28.8 degrees Celsius).

Athletes who choose to wear a wetsuit in water temperatures 76.2 degreesFahrenheit (24.55 degrees Celsius) and up to 83.8 degrees Fahrenheit (28.77 degrees Celsius) willnot be eligible for Age Group awards, including World Championship or Rolldown slots.

The De Soto Water Rover and the Speedo Elite Triathlon Wetsuit with forearm flapswetsuits are PROHIBITED.

Athletes should contact the wetsuit manufacturer directly to confirm whether their suitis legal.

Race officials will be monitoring athletes on race morning to enforce wetsuitrestrictions.

5. If wetsuits are prohibited, what are the swimwear restrictions?

Swimwear (Skinsuits/Speedsuits) must be 100% textile material, which is defined asmaterials consisting of natural and/or synthetic, individual and non-consolidated yarnsused to constitute a fabric by weaving, knitting and/or braiding. Simply put, this wouldgenerally refer to suits made only from nylon or Lycra that do not have any rubberizedmaterial such as polyurethane or neoprene.

Swimwear must not cover the neck, extendpast the shoulder, nor extend past the knees. Swimwear may contain a zipper. A race kitmay be worn underneath swimwear.

6. In the event of a non-wetsuit swim, am I allowed to wear my compression gear?

Yes, provided that it is made of 100% textile material (no rubberized material such aspolyurethane or neoprene) and that material does not extend past the elbows orknees.Any compression wear that extends past the elbows or knees will not bepermitted in non-wetsuit swims (this includes compression sleeves, compression socks,or compression tights).

7. Are snorkels permitted?

Snorkels are not allowed under anycirc*mstances for any IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3event.

8. What should I do if I am having a problem in the water?

If you are struggling and decide that you require assistance do your best to remain calm,raise your hand high into the air/shout to get the attention of the support boats andmove to the outside of the course if you are able.You can hold on to a boat withoutbeing disqualified as long as the boat does not provide propulsion. There will also beresting rafts available throughout the course.

Course-Bike

1. How many laps/loops is the bike course?

The bike is a2.75laps/loop course.

2. What kind of bicycle do I need to participate?

This event will adhere to the ITU guidelines, which are as follows:
Bicycles must have the following characteristics:

a) No more that two (2) meters long, and fifty (50) centimeters wide for elite and juniors, in Triathlon World Cup, Olympic Games, ITU Regional Championships,ITU International Events, Duathlon World Cup Series, Triathlon and Duathlon World Championships. For all other competition, two (2) meters long andseventy-five (75) centimeters wide will be permitted.

b) Measure at least 24 centimeters from the ground to the center of the chain wheel axle.

c) A vertical line touching the front-most point of the saddle will be no more than 5 centimeters in front of and no more than 15 centimeters behind a verticalline passing through the center of the chain wheel axle, and a competitor must not have the capability of adjusting the saddle beyond these lines duringcompetition.

d) Measure no less than 54 centimeters and no more than 65 centimeters between a vertical line passing through the center of the chain wheel axle and avertical line through the center of the front wheel axle. (Exceptions may be given for the bicycles of very tall or very short competitors.

e) Faringswhich reduce air resistance are prohibited.

f) The front wheel may be a different diameter than the rear wheel, but must be of spoke construction. Covers are allowed on the rear wheel. These provisionsmay be changed by the TD in the interest of safety, (i.e., high winds).

g) No wheel may contain mechanisms which are capable of accelerating it.

h) Handlebar ends must be plugged, tires well glued, headsets tight and wheels true.

i) There must be a brake on each wheel.

j) Non-traditional or unusual bicycles or equipment shall be illegal unless prior approval has been received from the Chief Race Official prior to the start of thecompetition.

3. Are disc wheels permitted?

Yes. However, race organizers reserve the right to restrict use depending on conditions.

4. How frequent are the distance markers on the bike course?

The bike course will have a distance marker every 10 kilometers. They will be in kilometers only, so ifyou are used to miles please accustom yourself to the conversion.

5. How many aid stations will there be and how are they spaced?

See above for location of aid stations.
