Despite the Wisconsin basketball team suffering multiple roster setbacks recently, one particular signee is bringing plenty of success with him to Madison.
Talented wing player Jack Robison is a former teammate of current Badger forward Nolan Winter, and also a Wisconsin basketball signee. Robison, a Minnesota native, had long been the second scoring option on his team and looked to find plays on the court for Winter. However, this past season, Robison developed into one of the more versatile players in the state with some fantastic feats being reached along the way.
Wisconsin Basketball Signee Jack Robison Prepared to Display Dynamic Play Style With Badgers
During the past couple of weeks, Wisconsin basketball has not only lost a handful of starting caliber players, but also the majority of their bench. The Badgers now sit in an awkward position as they attempt to find players remaining in the portal who would be fits for the play style of the program. Along with searching the transfer portal, the Wisconsin basketball staff has also made calls to their current signees to deliver some news.
The Wisconsin basketball staff expects their incoming recruiting class to pick up some of the slack that is now left behind, which could become a tall task. However, the Badgers may have just the right players coming into the program for the task at hand.
Among the signees for the Badgers is forward Jack Robison, who is coming off of arguably his most well-rounded season of organized basketball. Robison averaged 25.8 points per game this past season while shooting 51.1% from the field and 38.6% from the three-point line. Robison also carried his team on defense this past season, as he claimed his defensive role was to ‘…Guard the best player on their team…’ each game.
Robison not only helped carry his team on both sides of the ball this season, but also set the scoring record for his school with 1806 points during his four-years on the team.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Expecting Young Players to Make Major Leap Next Season
With many changes occurring for the Badgers in a short period of time, the Wisconsin basketball staff did not necessarily have a back-up plan. The Badgers did not seem to expect some of the moves to occur that did, such as guard Chucky Hepburn recently entering the transfer portal. Much of the transfer portal buzz surrounding the Badgers had former teammates reuniting with Hepburn, so following his announcement, all contact ended for Wisconsin.
With not back-up plan or an abundance of contacts in the transfer portal, Wisconsin basketball has now decided to put their signees up to the test. According to incoming guard Daniel Freitag, the Badgers staff called the recruit to talk about the state of his commitment, as well as inform him that he will likely see much more of the court next season. Robison could also see a fair share of the court next season, serving in a similar role to that of John Blackwell this past season for the Badgers.
Can Jack Robison Solidify Himself as a Starter During Next Season for Wisconsin?
Unlike Freitag, Robison does not have an incredible athletic ability or sense on the court that allows him to make stellar plays. Freitag has been known as a consistent, dynamic finisher that can easily find crafty ways to score the basketball, which will likely lead to significant playing time early on. In the case of Robison, the Wisconsin Badgers basketball staff may need to see more out of the forward before giving him a sizable role on the team.
Robison has all the tools to be successful for the Wisconsin basketball team, but the question remains on whether or not his game will translate over to the next level.
